EV charger installation is a dedicated electrical circuit addition to your home — the same category of work as adding a subpanel or a hot tub circuit. Cities require permits to ensure the work meets code, that your panel can handle the load, and that the installation is safe. Without a permit, your homeowner's insurance may deny claims related to the charger, and you may face issues when selling your home.

How much does a permitted EV charger installation cost?

A typical Level 2 EV charger installation with a pulled permit ranges from $1,200 – $1,600 depending on panel location, run length, and local permit fees. Installations requiring a panel upgrade or long conduit runs may cost more. We provide a detailed, itemized quote before any work begins. If you're seeing quotes significantly below this range, confirm whether permits are included.

Can you install a charger I've already purchased?

Yes. We install any residential Level 2 EV charger regardless of brand. If you've already purchased a Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Lucid, Rivian, Mercedes-Benz, Wallbox, Blink, Grizzl-E, or any other brand, submit your quote request and include the model information. We'll handle the installation with all required permits.

Will my existing electrical panel support a Level 2 charger?

Most homes built after 1990 in Southwest Riverside County have 200A panels which can accommodate a Level 2 charger circuit. Older homes or homes with many large appliances may need a panel evaluation. We assess your panel as part of every quote — there's no charge for this assessment and we'll let you know upfront if an upgrade is needed before committing to the project.

Can I pair an EV charger with my existing solar system?

Yes — and this is one of the best ways to maximize your solar investment. Brand-integrated chargers (Enphase, SolarEdge) can route solar production directly to your vehicle during peak generation hours. Even without brand integration, you can schedule charging during daytime hours when your solar system is producing. We can advise on the best approach for your specific solar setup.

What is bidirectional charging and do you support it?

Bidirectional charging (also called Vehicle-to-Home or V2H) allows your EV to discharge power back into your home during an outage or peak rate periods — essentially using your car as a battery backup. ElectriCare is GM Energy Bidirectional Certified for compatible GM vehicles and chargers.
