What Happened to SunPower

SunPower Corporation filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on August 5, 2024. Within weeks, the customer-facing operations went dark:

  • September 20, 2024 — Customer support shut down: 1-800-SUNPOWER, the mySunPower app, and the customer web portal all went offline
  • September 30, 2024 — Complete Solar acquired select SunPower assets for $45 million
  • April 2025 — Complete Solar rebranded as "SunPower" — but this is a different company. They explicitly did not assume responsibility for any system installed before September 30, 2024.

If your SunPower system was installed on or before September 30, 2024, the new "SunPower" (Complete Solar) is not responsible for it. You are an orphan customer — even though the brand name still exists.

What's Still Covered (And What Isn't)

This is the most important part. Don't believe headlines that say "all warranties are void." That's only partly true.

Still Covered

  • Maxeon-manufactured panels — Maxeon spun out of SunPower in 2020 and operates independently. They honor product warranties on SunPower-branded panels they manufactured. Register at maxeon.com/us/sunpower-warranty
  • Enphase microinverters — Enphase honors all microinverter warranties (typically 25 years), regardless of who installed your system
  • REC, Waaree, Fronius components — most are continuing to honor product warranties

No Longer Covered

  • SunPower's 25-year workmanship warranty — issued by SunPower Corporation and is void
  • SunPower's production guarantee — also void
  • Repair labor costs — manufacturer covers the part, but you pay for the labor to install it

Lease or PPA Customers

If you have a lease or PPA, your contract didn't end with SunPower's bankruptcy. It transferred to SunStrong Management at (833) 514-1858. Contact them for billing and contract questions. For service and repair on your physical system, ElectriCare can still help — we're independent of SunStrong and can service the equipment regardless of who holds the contract.

Free Inspection

We come out, inspect the system, identify your equipment, and document its current condition. No charge for the visual assessment.

Warranty Claims

We pull serial numbers, confirm what's covered with each manufacturer (Maxeon, Enphase), and file claims directly. Most claims require a certified installer — that's us.

Monitoring Reconnection

The mySunPower portal is dead. We reconnect to native Enphase Enlighten monitoring so you can see your production again.

Repair & Replace

Failed microinverter, panel, or battery? We diagnose, source warranty replacements, and install with our in-house electricians.

NEM 3.0 Battery Add-On

Many SunPower systems were sized for NEM 2.0. We add storage that restores your savings under NEM 3.0 economics.

Long-Term Service

Same family, same California license (CSLB #778366), since 2000. When you call us in 5 or 10 years, we'll still be here.

SunPower Customer Questions

The most common questions from SunPower customers reaching out to us.

My SunPower system stopped producing. What do I do?

Schedule an inspection. If the issue is a microinverter or panel failure, it's likely covered under manufacturer warranty and we can replace it. If it's a string inverter, we'll diagnose and quote the repair upfront.

I can't see my SunPower production data anymore. Is my system broken?

Probably not. The mySunPower portal shut down in September 2024, but the underlying hardware (usually Enphase microinverters) is still reporting data. We can reconnect you to native manufacturer monitoring like Enphase Enlighten.

Should I have my SunPower system inspected even if it's working?

Yes — particularly if it's more than 5 years old. Identifying small issues now (loose wiring, microinverter degradation, racking corrosion) while warranties are still valid is far cheaper than waiting until something fails.

Is the new "SunPower" (Complete Solar) responsible for my system?

No. Complete Solar acquired the SunPower brand and trademarks in September 2024 but explicitly did not assume responsibility for systems installed before September 30, 2024. If your install predates that, you are an orphan customer.

How much does an inspection cost?

Free for a basic visual and production review. A full diagnostic with reporting is quoted upfront with no surprises.

What about my SunPower lease or PPA?

Your contract transferred to SunStrong Management. Contact them at (833) 514-1858 for billing and contract questions. For physical service and repairs, ElectriCare can help regardless of who holds the contract.
