SolarEdge is one of the most widely installed string inverter platforms in the U.S., and its display and monitoring app report faults through numbered error codes. Here’s what the most common ones mean and how urgently each needs attention.

How to Find Your Error Code

SolarEdge inverters show a code directly on the front LCD screen, or through the SolarEdge monitoring app under “Site Info” or the layout view, where affected optimizers or the inverter itself will flag red.

Common SolarEdge Error Codes

Error 8-11 / 8-12 (Arc Fault Detected): The inverter has detected a potential DC arc — a safety fault, not a performance one. Do not ignore this code. See our full guide on arc fault errors for what causes them and why they matter.

Error 3-15x series (Optimizer Communication/Pairing Fault): One or more power optimizers aren’t communicating with the inverter. Often caused by a failed optimizer, damaged wiring at the panel level, or a pairing issue after panel-level work.

Error 16x (Isolation/Ground Fault): Indicates a loss of isolation between the DC circuit and ground — usually a wiring insulation issue, often from rodent damage, water intrusion, or connector degradation.

Error 25x / Temperature-Related Faults: The inverter has throttled or shut down due to internal overheating, common in units mounted in direct sun or with blocked ventilation.

Solid Red LED, No Code: Often a hard internal component failure (fan, capacitor, or power board). Common in HD-Wave units after 8+ years of service.

Repair or Replace?

SolarEdge string inverters carry a standard 12-year warranty, extendable to 25 years if registered. If your unit is within warranty, replacement is typically covered — but you’ll need documentation from a licensed technician to file the claim. Outside of warranty, repair is often viable for optimizer-level faults; full inverter replacement is more common for internal component failure.
