The PVI series was one of Power-One’s original residential and commercial string inverter lines, later carried forward under ABB and eventually Fimer. Like the related Aurora line, PVI inverters are now a discontinued platform — most units still in service are well over a decade old.
Common PVI Error Codes
Arc Fault Warning: A safety fault requiring prompt attention — not a routine performance issue. See our full guide on arc fault errors.
Ground Fault / Insulation Resistance Fault: Reduced insulation resistance in the DC wiring, frequently tied to age-related cable and connector degradation.
Grid Fault: Out-of-range grid voltage or frequency detected by the inverter. Infrequent occurrences are often transient; recurring faults suggest an underlying wiring issue.
Internal Fault / Dead Display: The most common finding on PVI units at this point in their service life — internal hardware failure from age, not a fixable configuration issue.
Why Repair Isn’t Usually the Right Call Anymore
Because PVI is a discontinued platform absorbed through two ownership changes (Power-One → ABB → Fimer), sourcing exact replacement components has become increasingly difficult and expensive relative to the cost of a modern replacement inverter. Combined with the age of most units still in the field, replacement is almost always the more practical option for PVI owners today.
